D'LOUMMMIES is excited to have hosted the Migrant Support and Hangout Event on Saturday November 30, 2024. The event focused on integration awareness, networking, wellness activities and mental health support. The event, held in collaboration with AMY MOTHER AND CHILD CARE FOUNDATION, brought together individuals from various communities within Somerset to meet new people, try wellness activities and learn about community resources.
A special thank you goes to the wellness facilitators Stephanie at Breathe More (https://breathemore.co.uk./ ) and Mark at Krav Maga Somerset (https://www.kravmagasomerset.co.uk/ ) who led the wellness sessions, offering their expertise at the event. Stephanie shared some accessible and effective breathing exercises to assist in moments of overwhelm, to help reduce anxiety, and to induce feelings of calm and connection. Mark discussed the Benefit of Martial Art on Mental Health and engaged the audience in some martial art activities. The breathing and martial art sessions was inclusive and fun for all attendees to engage.
The collective efforts of D'LOUMMMIES CIC, AMY MOTHER AND CHILD CARE FOUNDATION, and the wellness facilitators made the event a true success, with participants leaving feedback that they enjoyed the wellness activities, were informed and inspired.
The feedback we've received has been positive, underlining the value of the wellness activities provided. As our first event of this kind in the migrant community, we view it as a great success. We believe that together we have made a meaningful contribution to the local community, promoting health and wellness resources across Somerset.
D'LOUMMMIES CIC remains committed to raising trauma awareness and fostering inclusive, accessible spaces where everyone can thrive, regardless of background or experience. We are excited to continue this journey with our partners, facilitators, and all who joined us, and we look forward to future opportunities to build community and support wellness for all.

As part of the World Mental Health Day, the Open Mental Health Walkabout was held in Bridgwater, Somerset on 10 October. This year's event was led by Open Mental Health Champions, Expert by Experience, Spark Somerset, Diversity Voice and Second Step. One of the Mental Health Champions involved in the walkabout was Mary Onukem from D'LOUMMMIES CIC. The walkabout started with a meeting at The Hub on Angel Place, and proceeded through the streets of Bridgwater, going to shops and businesses. The participants worked in pairs, distributing leaflets and letting people know about Open Mental Health. The event received positive response and engagement with the community members. Every venue took some leaflets, with many displaying them straightaway on the counter, notice board, shop window or in their staff room. New café Purple Spoon On The Go offered free tea and cake to people to celebrate World Mental Health Day. Click the link above to learn more.
